Case Study: Autonomous Robotic Aggregate Pickup Pilot

Orange Sparkle Ball was awarded a Real World Deployment Grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation's Office of Future Mobility and Electrification. This grant is enabling us to put our Autonomous Robotic Pickup Platform into action through a series of pilots in the Transportation Innovation Zone of Detroit, established by the Office of Mobility Innovation at The City of Detroit.

In November 2024, Orange Sparkle Ball launched a pilot seeking to understand what robotic pickup could look for Detroit with a pilot allowing participants to hail a robot for a limited variety of materials including plastic bags, small electronics, and commercial food waste for them to be redistributed to the most viable, sustainable destination that ensures their proper reuse, recycling, and/or refurbishment. We targeted residential and commercial participants in Corktown with the goal of understanding the logistics of multi-material pickup.
