Orange Sparkle Ball has officially received a 2nd Transportation Innovation Zone (TIZ) Permit for piloting the autonomous robotic pickup of household materials for end-of-life processing in the Corktown region of Detroit in partnership with Intermode with support from the North Corktown Neighborhood Association.
In January 2023, the City of Detroit Office of Mobility Innovation was approved to launch the Transportation Innovation Zone. This first-of-its-kind expedited permitting process is designed to help bring new and innovative mobility solutions to Detroit and pilot them in the real world.
Orange Sparkle Ball has been granted a 2nd Transportation Innovation Zone (TIZ) Permit from the City of Detroit Office of Mobility Innovation. This permit will allow us to pilot the autonomous robotic pickup of several household materials in partnership with Intermode as well as several local materials partners.
The project aims to build on the first TIZ permit we were granted that we used to test the autonomous robotic pickup of food waste for composting in partnership with Ottonomy, Scrap Soils, and Brother Nature in the North Corktown neighborhood of Detroit. Expanding the serviceable area from our first pilot, we will be able to conduct pickups across the entire Transportation Innovation Zone. The materials we will be picking up include plastic bags for recycling, small electronics for refurbishment, and food waste for repurposing and composting.
